Kaikoura

Some photos from our recent trip to Kaikoura. This is a seal colony just north of Kaikoura that we visited on New Years Day. To be honest I did expect it to be more interesting than sleeping, smelly seals but was a bitย disappointed… They blended in well with the rocks so the easiest way to spot them was to walk until you smelt one was close, then stop and look around. Not as cool as they look on TV but worth a look none the less.

It’s been a week since my last post! Which doesn’t sound like long but has been a lifetime to me. Don’t get me wrong – I really enjoyed the project and I still have my camera on me most of the time but it’s been great not having to post every single night! ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, here are a few photos…

December 31: Day 365/365!

Happy New Year! 365 days after starting this daily-photo project it feels weird (but good) to be finished. It’s been a crazy year in Canterbury so glad to say that 2011 is over and bring on 2012!

I thought it would be fitting to use some HDR images for my final day (sorry to those who aren’t a fan of HDR…) as it’s something that I have learnt a lot about during this project. These images are from our drive to Kaikoura yesterday, walking around Kaikoura and a surf spot about 15 minutes north where I spent 3 hours watching the boys surf some mediocre waves. Obviously I couldn’t get 3 shots of people surfing so I used 5 TIFF images from the RAW to create the HDR.

And that’s it for day 365 ๐Ÿ˜€

December 15: Walk on the beach

It’s a pretty awesome night tonight so I grabbed my camera and went for a walk down the beach. It was overcast with showers today but has settled down tonight and is a really still, warm night which made for a great walk down the beach with the high tide, waves crashing and the beach to myself. Days like this make me glad I live at the beach on day 347! ๐Ÿ˜€

November 14: Estuary sunset

I went for a walk down to the beach tonight and even though it was pretty windy and cold, it was awesome! The waves were pretty loud and the beach was deserted but I like the beach when it’s windy and stormy so enjoyed the walk. This is the estuary where I walked on the way back and it was pretty calm because it’s sheltered by the sand dunes. Living the dream at the beach on day 316 ๐Ÿ˜€

November 9: Coming soon…

Insane day today! This week has been flat out as our Seniors left today so this week and especially today have been so busy finished assessment and resubmits before they head off for exams. Plus it was Prize Giving tonight and I only just got home so only time for a quick snap with the promise of lazy summer days at the beach to come! Day 311 (finally) over! ๐Ÿ™‚

October 22: Beach flower

It gets pretty windy down at the beach and if you look closely you can see all the sand that has been blown onto this flower. Another flower I know and I had tried cropping to a square around the main flower but I like the bokeh effect so I kept it as-is. A fun-filled night of marking awaits me so that’s it from me ๐Ÿ™‚

October 13: Afternoon with Dad

I’m on school holidays this week and spent the afternoon down at the park and beach with Brylee. We got down to the park, had a look at the ducks, then got the camera out and started taking some photos before I realised that the memory card was still at home on the couch! Pretty average but we walked back home and grabbed the card then came back to see the ducks and grab some photos. Brylee was pretty intrigued by the ducks and they got really close so we stayed there for a while then headed down to the beach. It was sunny but with a pretty cold wind so we just dipped our toes in the water then sat on a log and watched the waves for about half an hour. Before we headed home Brylee picked up a shell for her scrapbook and had a wee suck on it, ate some sand, then we walked back home. Great wee adventure on day 284 ๐Ÿ˜€
