Happy New Year! 365 days after starting this daily-photo project it feels weird (but good) to be finished. It’s been a crazy year in Canterbury so glad to say that 2011 is over and bring on 2012!
I thought it would be fitting to use some HDR images for my final day (sorry to those who aren’t a fan of HDR…) as it’s something that I have learnt a lot about during this project. These images are from our drive to Kaikoura yesterday, walking around Kaikoura and a surf spot about 15 minutes north where I spent 3 hours watching the boys surf some mediocre waves. Obviously I couldn’t get 3 shots of people surfing so I used 5 TIFF images from the RAW to create the HDR.
I got the chance to head out this morning and take the end-of-year photo for Worthington Contracting. Have a look at the website for an older version of this photo featuring a grand total of 9 vehicles but this updated photo shows the huge amount of growth that has taken place in the last few years. Anyway, they had hired a cherry-picker for me that got up to about 14 meters which was pretty awesome for be able to choose the best vantage point for the photo. This was just one of the many photos I took but I wanted to try it in HDR so saved the original RAW image as 5 TIFF images bracketed by one stop from -2 to 2, then combined in Photomatix for the tone mapping before finishing off back in Photoshop. I like the final image with the clouds in the background and even though they probably wont want an HDR version, it was fun to play around with on day 353 🙂
We finally got into the Red Zone today! They opened up a walkway through to the Cathedral Square in Christchurch this weekend so we took the family through for a look today. I’ve been waiting almost a year to get inside and take some photos and even though this was all fenced off and pretty packed it was really good to see the inner city and the changes that have been made. The Cashel Container Mall was pretty awesome to see for the first time and really good to see something starting to happen in the Central City! Anyway, enough words so enjoy the images and have a look closely at the McDonald’s photo for the half-eaten food that was left there over 9 months ago! Successful day 329 🙂
We called past a mall tonight after it was closed so I thought it would be a good opportunity to take some photos without all the people there. I took a few shots but it’s 11:50pm so I’m only uploading one (maybe some more to follow tomorrow if I have time) but this is my image for day 300! Only 65 days to go! 😀
What a day! It was the 25th Anniversary weekend of the North Canterbury Rodders car club and they had a meet and show today. There were over 40 amazing cars from around Canterbury and some serious coin floating around! All I could do was drool and take photos but I’m guessing I’ll have to sell a whole lot more images to afford even some of the less expensive cars on show today… It’s been a very busy afternoon processing these photos and I haven’t even touched Photoshop – just processed them in Photomatix and then put them into groups so I didn’t have to upload 78 images individually! Anyway, here they are and for those that I talked with today – email me at email@example.com if you want to book a full shoot. Enjoy the images for day 286! 🙂
We stopped by Pegasus Town on our way home from Christchurch this afternoon just as it was starting to fine up and luckily I had my camera in the car. This is one of the features of the town and pretty flash so thought it would make a good photo. We’ve been here a few times for BBQ’s and it’s pretty nice and even though it wasn’t actually very warm, it looks nice in the photo for day 279!
We went for a walk today and saw this digger so we came back then I grabbed the camera, found a bike lying around and went for a wee ride back down. I kinda like old machinery like this because the worn, rusty steel looks pretty cool in HDR… An early post for day 273 but I’ve got the All Blacks, Junior Warriors and Warriors Grand Final to watch!! What a day!
