Abandoned farmhouse

This is an old house in Waikuku on State Highway 1 that I drive past most days on my way to work. I’ve been meaning to stop and take photos for ages and almost didn’t (I even slowed down, decided not to and kept driving, and then pulled over a did a U-turn a bit down the road) but fought the urge to keep driving and grabbed a few photos.

My wife hates driving with me when I’ve got my camera close because I always want to stop, and while I do feel sorry for all partners of people who like to take photos, it’s always worth stopping! So these photos are dedicated to the frustrated partners who have to sit and wait for photos to be taken…

August 2: Burnt out

This car was obviously burnt out a while ago and I have been driving past it every day for the past few weeks and meaning every time to stop and take photos. It was in a paddock next to the road but a few days ago it was moved out of the paddock and is now sitting beside the road. I figure this meant that it will soon be taken away so I finally had time tonight to stop and take a few photos. It was a bit of a mission as there were a few cars coming past and I had to move out onto the road with the tripod between passing cars to take the photos but it worked out in the end 🙂 And that’s it for day 243!

July 14: Iron chandelier

This house has a rather large chandelier above the dining table and I thought it might look good in a photo. It took ages to get the photos centered as I had to sit the camera on the table below and I wasn’t able to use the viewfinder. I took a photo, checked it, replaced the camera in a slightly different position then repeated until I was happy with the result. I know I could have just cropped it after but wanted to make sure it was exactly in the middle so the lighting and shadows were consistent. Anyway, enough typing so I’m off to bed! Day 195 complete – closing on 200 posts! 🙂

July 3(Half way day!): Railway graffiti

Today we went into Christchurch to get some shopping done and I spotted this graffiti as we drove up Columbo Street. We were in a hurry on our way back but made a quick stop to grab some photos. It was quite a cool place and there was some amazing graffiti covering most of the surfaces. There was some useless tagging which was kinda ugly but in general most of it was pretty awesome. I really like graffiti in photos and decided to go with four photos for today instead of the usual one to celebrate passing the halfway mark in my 365 project! Day 183 down 🙂

June 22: The sun breaking through

So I am now firmly in the HDR camp! This is kinda fun… Taken from 3 shots, handheld on the way from Waikuku to Rangiora this afternoon. This is the third day in a row that it’s been cloudy and grey all day but has opened up for the sun to come through in the afternoon. On Monday I noticed it in while I was in the car without my camera and Tuesday I was in the city so couldn’t get a very good view of the skyline but today I was in the car with my camera and in the country so I finally got a shot of it. Success! Another HDR for  day 172, I think I’m addicted!

May 9: Falling leaf

I’m actually quite enjoying this night photography deal now! Finding it quite interesting throwing things around and trying to catch them in the flash against a black background… I found this leaf tonight and though it would look awesome against the dark background. It took a few shots but I really like the end result.  Day 128 = done!
